Description: |
If you like
mountain riding, and your horse/mule is in good
condition, this is the place for you. Lots of creek
side riding. The Rim Trail has some of the most
spectacular views in Western North Carolina.
Some trails have steep drop offs on one or both
sides but they're not dangerous as the ridge tops
are fairly wide. Bring your fly rod if you're into
fishing. The riding includes Forest Service roads,
old logging roads, and primitive one tracks. Fires
Creek is an awesome place to camp and ride.

Campground : |
Bristol Field
Horse Camp is an organized primitive campground
located next to Fires Creek in Fires Creek Bear
Sanctuary. There are about 10
designated spots as well as an area for overflow
camping/day use. A flyer for Bristol Field Horse
Camp says reservations are required but the
people we met there said it was first come. At
least the overflow would be first come. It
might be
a good idea to check with the District Ranger.
The fee is $5.00 per night on the honor system.
In addition to Bristol Field Camp, you can camp
anywhere except at the picnic area. (Total of 10
sites) Be aware that the road into the
horse camp is winding & narrow. We won't
take a big trailer because of a couple of
narrow turns. Hopefully, the USFS will
work on this soon because this is a wonderful
area to ride! |
