This is very
disturbing to those of us who live adjoining or near the
Chattahoochee National Forest or the Oconee National forest and have
ridden and maintained historic old roads as multi-use trails that have been
in use for half a century or more. We feel it is unreasonable to expect
equestrians who enjoy riding on public lands to haul their horses
for miles to access a designated trail, when good, safe
riding is right outside our doors. Not only is it costly with
gas prices as they are, but vehicles cause pollution and there's
always the possibility of a hazard when you haul and when you are
forced to ride roads shared with cars and trucks. This is one of the reasons for the
organization of the Back
Country Horsemen of North Georgia. We need more trails and the
designation of sustainable existing & historically used trails. Please become a member and help us
keep our right to ride OUR public lands. We
want to work with the USFS to encourage responsible and continued
equestrian use of our forests. We support education rather
than regulation & the
"Leave No Trace" ethic. |
